Outdoor Leadership Training

The OIC provides Outdoor Leadership Training to educators of after school care providers and youth-serving organizations covering the necessary skills and safety information to provide a quality camping experience. Education topics include Leave No Trace principles, trip planning, site management, gear setup and teardown, day and nighttime youth activities that are site-specific, and safety protocol. Training takes place at the Watson’s Cabin campsite in Riverview Park utilizing the gear that’s available for reservation in the Outdoor Inclusion Coalition’s gear library. At the conclusion of the training, educators will gain access to the Outdoor Inclusion Coalition’s gear library, providing the educator access to 20 sets of individual gear to outfit their youth with gear to camp and be comfortable outdoors. Gear includes but is not limited to; tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, hiking boots, stoves, tarps, and rain gear. The OIC assists newly trained individuals with the permit process to reserve the site through the City of Pittsburgh.

This training requires an overnight stay at Riverview Park with OIC Staff.
