Programs and Upcoming Events

WE ARE LEADING PEOPLE FROM THE SHADOWS INTO THE GREAT OUTDOORS AND HELPING THEM EXPERIENCE THE REWARD OF DISCOVERING SOMETHING NEW.

Climbing

The OIC Rock Climbing Program fosters a space for underrepresented communities to come together to connect and climb and includes cross generational programming indoors and outdoors as well as educational and progression-based programming.

Camp

The OIC's Urban Camping Program is dedicated to enriching communities through immersive outdoor experiences. By offering comprehensive overnight camping education and granting access to high-quality gear through our extensive Gear Library, we empower individuals and community groups to connect with nature close to home and beyond.

Snow Sports

The Snow Sports Program gives urban youth the support network to learn to ski and snowboard alongside other members of their community. With this strong community support, participants are able to take on the challenge of learning a new sport and develop skills that will last a lifetime.

Urban Wilderness Program

The Urban Wilderness Program is a cohort-based program with a goal to engage middle to high school students outdoors year round.  The group participates in both winter and summer sports.  The winter is dedicated to skiing and snowboarding while the summer is dedicated to camping, climbing, biking and more.  The program runs completely free of charge to the students.  The program works to break down barriers to foster curiosity in the outdoors and engage students to discover what excites them in nature.

Activities will take place in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas at recreational sites to include Hidden Valley, New River Gorge, Cuyahoga Valley and more.  Throughout the program, free activities are scheduled at least three days a week. Transportation is also provided to and from these activities.
